What is NET exam?
NET – National Eligibility Test is a national level ‘Online’ test of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to eligible candidates. Postgraduate students, who want to undertake research studies in the field of Science (CSIR-NET) Humanities and Social Sciences (UGC-NET) can apply. The exam is conducted twice in a year more clearly in in the month of June and December by the National Testing Agency (NTA) . The fellows selected through this exam are required to get admitted to an M.Phil/PhD programme at a UGC recognised University/Institution.

What is UGC NET?
University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a national-level exam conducted in order to select candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. Till June 2018, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted NET on behalf of UGC. However, from December 2018 onwards National Testing Agency (NTA) started conducting the UGC NET exam.

• July 1: UGC NET application process 2020 ended on June 30. UGC NET application form was released on March 16. .
• June 15: NTA has once again extended the UGC NET application date 2020 to June 30. .
• June 3: UGC has invited online information from UGC NET 2019 minority candidates to shortlist them for Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) 2019-20. .
• May 31: UGC NET application form 2020 submission deadline has been extended again to June 15. .
• May 17: UGC NET 2020 is likely to be held after July.
• May 15: UGC NET 2020 application form submission process has been extended till May 31. UGC NET exam date 2020 is likely to be out in a day or two. .
• May 6: The revised UGC NET exam date 2020 will be announced by MHRD soon. UGC NET application process 2020 will end next week. .
• March 30: NTA has revised the UGC NET application dates 2020. Candidates can now fill the NET application form 2020 by May 16. .
• March 30: UGC NET application form filling process 2020 will end on April 16. Many candidates have requested NTA to extend the UGC NET application date. .
• March 16: UGC NET June 2020 notification was released by NTA on March 16. UGC NET application process 2020 also started the same day. .

UGC NET Eligibility 2020
The basic criteria that candidates must fulfill to meet UGC NET eligibility 2020 are:
• Candidates should secure at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in post-graduation
• Candidates should not be more than 30 years in age in order to be eligible for JRF
• There is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor
• A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates
• A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates
• Candidates who have cleared State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002 are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam
