JN.1 Subvariant Spread: India’s Active Covid-19 Cases Rise

In the most recent Covid-19 developments, India witnessed a surge in active cases with 412 new infections, bringing the total to 4,170, as reported by the Health Ministry on Tuesday. Additionally, three new fatalities in Karnataka elevated the national death toll to 5,33,337, according to the ministry’s 8 am update.

Current Statistics:

As of now, India’s overall Covid case tally stands at 4,50,09,660, boasting a commendable national recovery rate of 98.81%. The fatality rate for Covid in the country is reported at 1.19%, as highlighted by the ministry’s official website.

Concerns over JN.1 Subvariant:

Amid escalating worries about the Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1, India has detected a total of 63 cases of this subvariant. Goa has emerged as the highest contributor, reporting 34 cases in a single day, followed by nine cases in Maharashtra, eight in Karnataka, six in Kerala, four in Tamil Nadu, and two in Telangana. Notably, these cases do not exhibit clustering in specific areas, and the majority of JN.1 subvariant instances present mild symptoms, providing some relief.

Regional Breakdown:

While the total number of active Covid-19 cases in India reaches 4,054, Kerala tops the list with the highest number of cases. According to Health Ministry data, Goa has 37 cases, Karnataka has 344, Kerala has 3,128, and Maharashtra has 50 active cases.
